Today I arrived at
Longbourn and received a comprehensive tour of the estate. It is a
reasonable house, not exceptionally large but pleasant nonetheless.
The potatoes we had for dinner were remarkable however. Better than
even those were the Miss Bennets, particularly the eldest, Jane.
Sadly I was informed that she is soon to be engaged, and I had to
settle for Elizabeth. Much to my surprise she outright refused my
offer of marriage. I fear that the rest of my stay here will be
tainted by this unhappy occurrence. Luckily I will return home in a
matter of days.
