I have heard the
most disgraceful news from the Bennets today. Not a day goes by now
where I do not thank Elizabeth for rejecting my proposal. I can not
imagine how my reputation would be tarnished had she accepted. Lydia
Bennet has eloped with the liar and thief Mr. Wickham. The family is
in an uproar, desperately trying to preserve their reputation. I am
glad my only association with them is the entail. Lady Catherine
would surely have disposed of me had my name been connected with
Wickham. Darcy must be glad Elizabeth rejected him like she rejected
me.
