Elizabeth and Darcy

Charlotte is ecstatic. Darcy and Elizabeth are getting married. I am sad to inform you that I do not share my wife's sentiments. Rather I am disappointed in Darcy. He even paid for Wickham and Lydia in order gain the trust and respect of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet. Charlotte and I went to Longbourn to congratulate the couple. All day I had to feign happiness for them. Lady Catherine is equally displeased as I. She had planned for years for her daughter to marry Darcy. I believe she would be a much better partner for a respectable man like Darcy.

The Shameful Bennet Family

I have heard the most disgraceful news from the Bennets today. Not a day goes by now where I do not thank Elizabeth for rejecting my proposal. I can not imagine how my reputation would be tarnished had she accepted. Lydia Bennet has eloped with the liar and thief Mr. Wickham. The family is in an uproar, desperately trying to preserve their reputation. I am glad my only association with them is the entail. Lady Catherine would surely have disposed of me had my name been connected with Wickham. Darcy must be glad Elizabeth rejected him like she rejected me.

Elizabeth Visits

Charlotte's dear friend Elizabeth arrived this morning. It is rather uncomfortable being in the same home someone you were rejected by in marriage. I try to minimize contact with her to make things easier for both of us. She has spent the majority of the day catching up with Charlotte on foolish matters that are of no importance to a man.

A couple days after Miss Bennet's arrival, we ventured to Rosings. Darcy was in attendance there too, and he has taken an interest in Elizabeth. I can not help but think of what an unsuitable couple they would be.

Married to Charlotte Lucas

Soon after my failed proposal to Elizabeth I had more success with Miss Charlotte Lucas, daughter of Sir William Lucas. We married a few weeks ago and are now living comfortably at Hunsford. Charlotte seems as happy as I am to be living here together. We frequently visit Lady Catherine at Rosings, so we are always in good company. I have not spoken to the Bennet family since my visit there, although Charlotte maintains contact with Elizabeth, who might stay with us soon. I hope to maintain a civil relationship with the family to ease the future takeover of Longbourn.

Visiting Longbourn and the Bennet family

Today I arrived at Longbourn and received a comprehensive tour of the estate. It is a reasonable house, not exceptionally large but pleasant nonetheless. The potatoes we had for dinner were remarkable however. Better than even those were the Miss Bennets, particularly the eldest, Jane. Sadly I was informed that she is soon to be engaged, and I had to settle for Elizabeth. Much to my surprise she outright refused my offer of marriage. I fear that the rest of my stay here will be tainted by this unhappy occurrence. Luckily I will return home in a matter of days.

The entailment of Longbourn

Many years ago the estate at Longbourn was entailed to me, as Mr. Bennet failed to have a son, having 5 daughters instead. I do feel dearly sorry for him. I have never discussed this matter with him, and it is high time I do. I can not possibly be nervous in approaching the family about it. I have written to Mr. Bennet and have invited myself to the estate in a little over a month. Hopefully this uncomfortable situation can be resolved peacefully. It pains me to think I will eventually steal a house from such a large family.
